Panettone French Toast

Baked often with plump raisins, currants and citrus zest, panettone is light and buttery.  This traditional holiday bread heralds the arrival of Christmas and the new year in Italy.  Start the day off right and impress your family and guests with a very easy recipe to make French toast with this Italian delight.

Ingredients


3 large eggs
2-1/8 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
½ tablespoon cinnamon
½ tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup Bailey’s liquor
1/8 cup Amaretto liquor
1 box (500 grams) Bauducco Panettone bread


powdered sugar (for garnish)
honey or syrup


 


Directions


1.  Mix all ingredients together and set overnight in the refrigerator.
2.  Next day, cut panettone into thick pieces.
3.  Soak bread into mixture until well absorbed but firm to the touch.
4.  Heat butter in pan until hot, and then brown toast on both sides.  Remove and plate.  


Optional: Sprinkle powdered sugar before serving with honey or syrup.
